Easy DIY Pallet Wall T.V. Mount (with Floating Entertainment Center)

I am forever thankful that my hubby loves to do DIY projects – and he should with the tools that we’ve purchased throughout the years. And, I’ll be honest, when he first came to me with this pallet wall floating shelf thingy, I was like “no thank you” – I wanted a traditional, large and chunky dresser style entertainment center with a huge amount of storage. This pallet wall TV mount is the complete opposite.

Thankfully, it looks good and we decided to up the amount of storage in the rest of the den to compensate. Along with reducing the amount of items we stored to begin with.

This project didn’t actually take very long… and did require many supplies!

We were able to grab free – unusable – pallets from my husbands work to take apart for the wall, after that all we needed were some 1×3’s to tack the pallets to. Even that could have been optional!

Here’s what we did:

First, we mounted our wooden entertainment center/shelf to the wall and added the pallets surrounding it. Before we could do ANY of this, we mapped out exactly where the TV mount would be, the TV itself would be and where we wanted to wall to start and stop.

Next, we tacked 1×3 inch boards along the wall. Some were in studs, some were not. This allowed the pallets to come off the wall and hide the TV cords along with us being able to add a strip of LED lights around the edge in the future.

We ended up adding a few more boards to the wall after this picture was taken as we realized we needed more spots to tack the pallet boards into.

Next, we started tacking up the first pallet boards. We started above the floating shelf and decided to come back and finish the sides and add a strip at the bottom once the top was complete.

From there, we kept tacking (and when I say we, I mean my husband. When he was doing this, I was actually working on my wooden bow hanger for Addie).

Once we got to the point where the TV would be sitting on top of the pallets, we hung the TV up to double check that our measurements were right – and that our TV would actually fit on our wall.

While we are not planing on getting a bigger TV ever (this one is plenty big enough) especially for this space, this could be a difficult project otherwise. I would recommend using a TV mount – which goes directly into the wall studs – that pulls out a little bit.

Eventually, we tacked on the final few pieces of pallet board and double checked everything before finishing it off and hooking everything up.

We had a few toddler interruptions there at the end, but it all progressed smoothly and by the end of the night, we were watching a movie on our TV mounted to our DIY pallet wall!

Ultimately, this project was easy and affordable – if you have the tools for it! If you’re lacking the tools and end up attempting to manually screw or nail all the boards onto the wall, I would expect to spend a lot more time on this project.

What I Learned From Our DIY Pallet Wall TV Stand

I learned that my hubby is AWESOME and that, even though I know what I want, I can still compromise. I can’t wait to show it off this holiday season – we host it at our house – this year! It goes perfectly with our up-and-coming den makeover.
